CARBÓN Y CENIZAS SERIES.

 

He oido en innumerables ocasiones que todo arte es político. Yo añadiría que todo arte tiene que concienciar. La serie “Carbón y cenizas” nace con ese propósito de concienciación. Durante los últimos años he podido constatar la gran cantidad de incendios que están asolando a la península ibérica en los meses de verano. Los llamados factores de riesgo y alertas de distintos colores que nos advierten del peligro real de incendio. La mala gestión del medio rural y forestal en muchos casos, en otros simplemente la desidia del visitante ocasional, están haciendo que la deforestación contribuya en gran parte al calentamiento global. 

 

Esta serie en la que llevo trabajando mas de un año quiere dejar constancia de estos desmanes que no por habituales han de ser menos dados a la reflexión. 

 

Dada mi trayectoria y el discurso de mi obra siempre cercano al conservacionismo y la exaltación del paisaje podía haber elegido otros temas como la invasión del plastico en nuestros mares. Pero quizás por cercanía y por trabajar con elementos muy básicos como el carbón, la ceniza y el papel han hecho que me decante por esta serie que pretende advertirnos de que lo que estamos viviendo, va a acabar irremediablemente con nuestra forma de vida tal y como la conocemos.

 

Mi obra siempre ha estado ligada al paisaje y en los últimos años a la fotografía como medio de expresión. Una fotografía a caballo entre el romanticismo más alemán y el pictorialismo mas purista. Una fotografia compuesta mediante una superposición de capas. Como sedimentos de mi propia memoria , estas texturas se han ido fijando en mi, hasta dejar un poso tenue de memoria de lo vivido. Mi trabajo es el de retratista de paisajes. Siempre he huido del convencionalismo de la fotografía del siglo XXI. He buscado la esencia del paisaje en las fotografías que tomo, así de esta forma estas pasan a ser un reposo mental y una confluencia de ideas de un paisaje que no existe.

 

Dentro de esa tradición romántica y creando nexos de unión con el informalismo y el expresionismo abstracto he empezado a desarrollar de nuevo una obra pictórica dentro de mi trayectoria. Estas nuevas piezas que presento ahora están creadas solo con elementos muy básicos como el papel, el carbón, las cenizas y el grafito. Unas obras de gran formato ligeras en su concepción pero con una carga emocional muy contundente. Su creación se ha realizado en  un estudio improvisado en Cuenca intentando recrear condiciones extremas de calor y acción de los elementos sobre la obra. Sol, humedad e intervención de elementos que rodean la vida en el medio rural y forestal ha sido una constante en la realización de la obra. El carbón y las cenizas utilizadas han sido recogidos de puntos incendiados en la comunidad de Castilla la Mancha, haciendo que materiales y condiciones estén íntimamente ligados y formen parte de un todo de la obra.

CARBON AND ASH SERIES.

 

I have heard on countless occasions that all art is political. I would add that all art has to raise awareness. The series "Coal and ashes" was born with that purpose of awareness. During the last years I have been able to verify the great amount of fires that are ravaging the Iberian Peninsula in the summer months. The so-called risk factors and alerts of different colors that warn us of the real danger of fire. The poor management of the rural and forestry environment in many cases, in others simply the casualty of the occasional visitor, are making deforestation contribute greatly to global warming.

 

This series in which I have been working for more than a year wants to record these excesses that not by usual have to be less given to reflection.

 

Given my career and the discourse of my work always close to conservationism and the exaltation of the landscape, I could have chosen other topics such as the invasion of plastic in our seas. But perhaps because of proximity and working with very basic elements such as coal, ash and paper have made me opt for this series that aims to warn us that what we are living, will inevitably end our way of life as We know her.

 

My work has always been linked to the landscape and in recent years to photography as a means of expression. A photograph on horseback between the most German romanticism and the most purist pictorialism. A photograph composed by overlaying layers. As sediments of my own memory, these textures have been fixed in me, until leaving a faint grounds of memory of the experience. My job is that of landscape portraitist. I have always fled the conventionalism of 21st century photography. I have looked for the essence of the landscape in the photographs I take, so in this way they become a mental rest and a confluence of ideas of a landscape that does not exist.

 

Within that romantic tradition and creating ties of union with informalism and abstract expressionism I have begun to develop a pictorial work within my career. These new pieces that I present now are created only with very basic elements such as paper, coal, ashes and graphite. Light large-scale works in their conception but with a very strong emotional charge. Its creation has been carried out in an improvised study in Cuenca trying to recreate extreme conditions of heat and action of the elements on the work. Sun, humidity and intervention of elements that surround life in rural and forestry has been a constant in the realization of the work. The coal and ashes used have been collected from burning points in the community of Castilla la Mancha, making materials and conditions closely linked and part of a whole of the work.
